Vermicompost bin in a Miami studio, how do yall deal with the constant fruit flies?

I visited a friend in Miami last month who keeps a worm bin under her kitchen sink, and for every two days of coffee grounds she gets a swarm of fruit flies that ends up in her bathroom, is there a specific lid design or feeding schedule that actually stops this?

Honestly half the time the fruit flies people blame on worm bins are just from whatever fruit is sitting on the counter, not the bin itself. Unless she's leaving the lid off or burying the food in a loose pile, a few flies here and there is just normal Miami humidity stuff. I'd say put a shallow dish of vinegar and soap next to the bin and see if that actually cuts the swarm before redesigning the whole setup.
