Update: I was wrong about bokashi bins being overkill for a 400 sq ft place
I always figured bokashi was too much work for one person in a small apartment, so I just kept dumping scraps in a little counter bin and dealing with the smell. Then my neighbor in 4B told me she's been running one for 8 months and her trash is down to one bag every 2 weeks. The thing that got me was that the bran just ferments everything, meat and dairy included, so nothing stinks and nothing goes in the trash. Has anyone here run a bokashi bin in a studio that small, and did the juice thing get gross?
My aunt ran one of those in a tiny camper van for a whole summer and the juice was the part she hated most, said it smelled like pickles left in a hot car. She ended up just draining it every few days instead of letting it build up, which helped a lot. Small spaces make you stay on top of that stuff or it turns on you fast.
