Saw a huge difference after switching to a countertop bokashi bin for 3 months

I started using a bokashi bin in my tiny studio in Chicago back in April. Before that I just threw everything in the trash and it got smelly fast. After 3 months of fermenting my scraps in that little bin, then burying the results in a friend's garden, I noticed my trash barely smells anymore and I'm taking it out half as often. Has anyone else tried bokashi and seen a real change in their apartment waste situation?

The part where you said "my trash barely smells anymore" is EXACTLY what sold me on bokashi. I think people overlook the fact that the fermentation process actually changes the bacteria in your trash can, not just the food scraps. Once you get that good microbe culture going, it starts working on new scraps right away instead of letting them rot. I had the same experience where my regular trash got way less nasty after I started using bokashi, even on days when I didn't add anything to the bin. It's like the whole ecosystem of your garbage shifts and that's huge for anyone living in a small space with no outdoor dumpster.

Totally agree @skylerg17, the smell difference alone is worth it.
