Bokashi buckets looked gross to me, now I'm on my second one
I live in a 400 square foot studio near downtown and kept seeing people talk about bokashi for small spaces. Honestly the whole fermented pickled garbage thing sounded like a disaster waiting to happen. I bought my first kit back in March mostly because my worm bin kept getting fruit flies and smelled like a swamp every time I opened it. The bran stuff has molasses in it and I was sure it would attract pests, but it's been sealed tight so no bugs at all. After 9 weeks I buried the bucket contents in a planter box on my balcony and the soil came out dark and crumbly, way better than the compost I got from my old bins. The only weird part is the liquid that drains out smells like beer mixed with soy sauce, but I just dilute it for my houseplants. Has anyone else had trouble trusting bokashi at first, or did I just get lucky with a good batch?
