Took me 3 years to realize I was skipping the ED in every anime

I always thought ending songs were just filler so I'd skip them fast. Then last week I let one play by accident during a sad episode and the lyrics literally summed up the whole character arc I just watched. Felt like an idiot. Did anyone else miss important stuff by skipping credits?

and then I saw this post and it made me think of that article I read about how anime endings are basically a second layer of storytelling. They're not just there for the credits to scroll by, they're meant to hit you with the emotional payoff you didn't even know you needed. I used to skip them all the time too, but now I let them play especially if there's a big death or a relationship cliffhanger. The ending for Your Lie in April absolutely wrecked me, but if I'd skipped it I would have missed the whole point of the final episode.

Oh man, I spent years thinking I was being efficient by skipping EDs and now I realize I was basically watching movies with the last 20 minutes cut off. My attention span is so fried I probably missed the emotional core of half the shows I've "finished".
