The con panel in Denver pulled a fast one on us last month

I went to a small anime screening room at this convention in Denver and the host swapped the promised subtitled version for a dub halfway through without saying anything. Half the crowd walked out and the other half argued in the hallway about whether that even counts as a 'discussion' of the show. Has anyone else had a panel or event change the format on you like that, and did it ruin or improve the whole vibe?
