Saturday flea market in Reno made me question everything I pick up

I was at the Reno flea market on Saturday and watched a guy buy a crusty old coin for $40 without cleaning it first. Turned out it was a 1909-S VDB penny, and the dirt was actually hiding a mint mark. I always scrub my finds before buying, but now I'm wondering how many good coins I've ruined with my toothbrush and vinegar. Anyone else stopped cleaning coins until after you get them home?
