Can we talk about the guy at the camera store who said to just use one film stock for a whole year?
I was in a small camera store in Portland about a month ago, just killing time on a rainy Saturday, and overheard the owner talking to a customer. He said something like, "You will learn more from 20 rolls of one film than 2 rolls of ten different ones." I have been shooting whatever is cheap or in the fridge for years, so that kind of stopped me. I have burned through probably 15 different stocks since January and I could not tell you how any of them really behave in low light or how they push. The idea of sticking to one for a year sounds boring but also kind of freeing, like I would finally know what I am doing. Has anyone here actually done the one film for a year thing, and did it stick or did you bail after a couple months?
