My patient scheduling spreadsheet took 3 days to crack, but it was worth it

I work front desk at a small physical therapy clinic in Tulsa and we were still using paper sign-in sheets until last month. I finally decided to build a digital schedule that tracks no-shows and late cancellations. Took me 3 evenings after my delivery shift to figure out the formulas, mostly because I kept messing up the date formatting in Excel. The office manager finally said 'just use color coding' and that simple tip saved the whole thing. Has anyone else hit a wall with basic scheduling software that should have been easy?

The color coding tip is a lifesaver. I spent a whole weekend fighting with conditional formatting for my volunteer schedule and it was the same thing. Once I stopped overthinking it and just used colors to flag conflicts, it took me like ten minutes.
