Spent 11 hours chasing a fuel gauge only to find a chafed wire behind the panel
Last Tuesday I pulled a Cessna 172 into the hangar for a squawk saying the left fuel gauge read full no matter what, and I figured it was a bad sender so I ordered one. Two days later the new sender was in and it did the exact same thing, so I finally grabbed a flashlight and found a chafed wire grounding out against the spar behind the panel where nobody ever looks. Has anyone else got a go to spot to check first before throwing parts at a gauge problem?
