Pro tip: Don't preheat your air fryer with parchment paper inside

I tried making salmon in my air fryer last night and threw a piece of parchment paper in there during the preheat. Big mistake. The paper got sucked up into the fan and started smoking after about 3 minutes. I had to unplug the whole thing and fish out the burned bits. Has anyone else had this happen or am I just the only one dumb enough to try it?

Jaw dropped reading this. Dude, you straight up put paper in a machine that has a fan spinning at who knows how many RPMs. That's like putting a napkin in a blender and hoping it stays put. The smoke must have been wild, I can almost smell it through the screen. Glad you didn't start a real fire though, that could have been way worse.

Tessa @flores.tessa mentioned the fire risk but honestly I'm more worried about what that shredded paper dust does to the machine long term. You ever seen what happens when paper fibers mix with the dust that's already inside a PC power supply? That stuff can get conductive when it builds up. My buddy fried a whole motherboard that way. The smoke was probably just the fan bearings burning up from the extra resistance.
