PSA: found a parking lot in Austin that AI-scans every car and what that means for local ads
I was grabbing tacos on South Congress last Friday and noticed a small camera rig on a light pole that looked way too fancy for a normal traffic cam. Turns out it was a pilot program from a local startup that uses AI to count cars and read license plates in real time, then sell that foot traffic data to nearby shops for targeted mobile ads. The owner of the taco spot told me his walk-in traffic went up about 18 percent after he started using the data to time his Google and Instagram promos around peak lot hours. Has anyone else seen these AI traffic cams pop up in their city, and do you think this kind of hyperlocal targeting is worth the privacy tradeoff?
