Field trials at the arboretum split me on whether to water deep or often
Last spring I volunteered at the Franklin Park arboretum and we ran a side by side test on 40 young maples. Half got one deep soak every 5 days, the other half got a light splash every morning like the city crew always did. By August the deep soak group had way fewer curled leaves, but the light water group bounced back faster after a heat spike. Now my own backyard trees are in this weird middle ground and I can't pick a side. Do you guys lean toward shocking roots with less water or keeping the topsoil damp all the time? Has anyone else seen results flip depending on the species or the season?
