How my elderly neighbor's daily wave evolved into a full-blown running cheer squad

Every morning, Mrs. Jenkins would wave from her porch as I jogged by. One day, she brought out a tiny bell and started ringing it. By the end of the week, she had recruited three other neighbors with noisemakers. Their impromptu cheering section got me laughing so hard I forgot how tired I was, and now I look forward to their silly support every run.

Wow, that's so heartwarming! Ross nailed it about micro-communities, but I'm curious how these rituals actually take root without any formal planning. Do you think the spontaneity is what makes them so meaningful, or could they be replicated intentionally?

Shows how micro-communities form in an age of isolation. We're starving for these tiny, real connections. Your run became the anchor for their morning, and their cheers became your fuel. It's a perfect little ecosystem that just... happened. Contrast that with the forced interactions of digital life. Makes you wonder what other simple rituals are waiting to be built, just outside our front doors.

Or they're just bored retirees.
