Totally get that. It's not just about saving a few bucks, it teaches kids how to work with what they have. My nephew used leftover modeling clay to fix a wobbly table leg once, then made a little animal out of the extra bit. That kind of problem-solving sticks with them way longer than some perfect, store-bought kit. What's the coolest thing your son has made with the extra stuff?

Yeah, I completely agree. It's amazing how kids can turn random stuff into something cool. My daughter made a fort out of couch cushions and tape last week, and it was her favorite thing for days.
