DAE fight with their partner over how to train the family dog?
So, my hubby and I are always butting heads about training our new pup. I'm all for using treats and praise when he does good things. But my man thinks we need to be strict and use a firm voice to show who's boss. Like, just yesterday, the dog barked at the mailman, so I told him to be quiet and gave him a chew toy, but my hubby yelled 'no' and put him in his crate. Now the poor guy seems totally lost. What's your take? Can pets handle different rules from different people, or does it just mess them up?

Oh boy, this hits close to home because my cousin went through the same thing with his dog. Honestly, dogs are pretty simple, and they need clear rules from everyone in the house. If you reward good actions but your husband punishes the same thing, the pup just gets mixed signals and shuts down. You both need to get on the same page, maybe watch some training videos together, so the dog knows what to expect. It's all about being a team, or else training turns into a mess.

Tbh, I get your point, but dogs aren't always so simple. They have their own quirks and past experiences that shape how they act. For instance, a dog with a rough history might shut down from any punishment, not just mixed signals. Clear rules are key, but you also need to watch the dog's body language and react calmly. It's less about being a perfect team and more about both people using the same gentle methods every time.

Watched a friend's dog get totally confused because her kids kept sneaking it table scraps after she said no. The dog didn't know the rule anymore and just started begging from everyone, which made training backslide. They all had to agree on one clear "no people food" rule before the dog finally settled down.
