My friend said antidepressants are a crutch and I'm still upset about it.
We were chatting about stress and I mentioned my doctor suggested meds... She immediately said I should just tough it out. It made me feel so small. Why is there still so much shame around getting help? I think calling it a crutch misses the point completely...

My buddy was drowning before his meds, now he's actually living.

Hey, if antidepressants are a crutch then my morning coffee is a full blown wheelchair. A crutch is just a tool that helps you heal while you get better, you know? It's a real bummer when friends act like using the right tool is something to be ashamed of.

Can I share something personal? I used to think meds were a last resort, like giving up. But seeing my cousin go from barely getting out of bed to actually enjoying life? That was a REAL eye-opener. It's not a crutch, it's more like fixing a broken leg so you can walk again. You wouldn't tell someone with a cast to just 'tough it out', right?
