The rock slide closure on my go-to loop has me stuck in a holding pattern
The Maple Ridge loop has been blocked off since last fall after a major slide. I checked the park site every week for updates, but the repair date kept getting pushed back. It's now been eight months, and I'm really missing my regular hike. Has anyone else had a favorite trail shut down for what feels like forever? I'd love to hear how you handled the wait or found other routes. If you know any loops with similar steep climbs and good views in the region, please share. This whole thing has tested my patience more than I expected.

That "holding pattern" feeling is everywhere now, from road work to waiting for anything.

Why does it seem like we're all just killing time until the next thing happens? It's not just road work. Every part of day to day life has this stalled quality. I wait for emails, for appointments, for packages that never come on time. We've built a whole culture around delays, and it's grinding. Honestly, the only thing that doesn't wait is my patience running out.

Feel that holding pattern thing deep in my bones. It's like @green.patricia said, the whole world is stuck waiting. My local grocery store has had the same pothole in the lot for a year, my doctor's office is booking three months out, and my favorite coffee shop just closed for "a short renovation" that's dragged on for six. You start to plan your life around stuff just being broken or closed. For your hike, maybe check out the old fire road up on Pine Crest. It's a brutal climb but the payoff view is worth it.
