Hot take: The morning equipment check-in process at my yard adds an extra half hour to my day.

I skip the full walk-around and just test the hydraulics first to spot most problems.

My version of that is rushing through closing tasks at the bar. I once locked up with the taps still running, what a mess.

But how do you know the tires are good if you don't look at them? Hydraulics won't show a slow leak or a crack in the rim. Those stories about the brake line and the running taps show that skipping steps bites you later. That extra half hour might feel wasted, but it's cheaper than a wrecked truck or a flooded bar. Sometimes the long way is the only safe way.

My buddy used to skip his truck's full inspection too. He missed a cracked brake line and rolled into a ditch leaving the lot. Now he does the whole walk every single morning.
