Rant: The new hire keeps cracking my blowpipes

It's happened three times this week. I'm about to lose my mind over the wasted time and glass.

Have you checked if the new hire knows how to anneal the glass properly? In my experience, a lot of cracks come from cooling the piece too fast. If the stress isn't relieved, it'll just keep cracking at the slightest touch. Might be worth watching their whole process before they get to the blowpipe stage.

Yeah but I've seen this before and it's usually a simple handling issue. Watched a temp last year who kept cracking them just by the way he set them down on the workbench, little bumps add up. Another time it was how hard they were gripping the pipe when it was hot, putting pressure in the wrong spot. Might not be the cooling at all.

Shadowed mine and found both issues.
