My cousin swore I could find agates in the gravel parking lot of that diner in Ely, Minnesota, and after 20 minutes of looking like a weirdo, I actually found a tiny Lake Superior agate.

Has anyone else had a totally random spot turn out to be a goldmine, or did I just get insanely lucky?

Ha, nice! I once found a great arrowhead in a ditch by a gas station, so maybe we're both just weirdly lucky?

Honestly, what kind of gas station ditch holds onto an arrowhead like that?

Oh man, I used to be so sure you had to go way out into the wilderness to find anything good. Then my kid picked up a perfect little quartz point from a pile of mulch at the city park. Just sitting there. Totally changed how I look at the ground now.
