Vent: Scope creep turned my simple gig into a nightmare
I see so many freelancers get caught by extra little requests that pile up! My client began asking for just one more tweak each day, and I kept agreeing to be helpful. Suddenly, I was doing triple the work for the original flat fee. It totally burned me out and killed my profit. Now I always define clear limits before starting any job!

But being too rigid can scare off good clients. Sometimes those extra tweaks build trust and lead to more work.

Last year a client asked for three logo tweaks beyond our deal. I did them fast because like @kevinjones said, it builds that good faith. That exact client came back this spring with a huge, properly paid website project, all because of that early trust. It’s about picking which small favors might actually lead somewhere bigger.

Help clients see how extra work hurts them too, like missed deadlines or rushed quality.
