Finally got the hang of using old glass bottles without shattering them

I used to just try and drill them dry, but after breaking like five from a local creek, I watched a video that said to keep the bit and glass under water the whole time. Has anyone else found a better trick for cutting or drilling found glass safely?

Oh man, I feel your pain on that. I went through a whole box of mason jars learning the same lesson. The water trick is a total game changer for sure.

Yeah and it's not just about the jars. That hot glass hitting cold water is a real shock to the system. I read somewhere it makes the glass weaker over time, even if it doesn't crack right then. So you might get a few more uses out of it, but it's living on borrowed time. Kinda makes you wonder how many of my "good" jars are actually ticking time bombs now.
