Rant: Heard a customer say their 'friend can fix it cheaper' after I quoted them $85 for a solder joint
I mean, I get it, times are tight, but that same friend probably doesn't have a hot air station or know how to trace a cracked trace on a motherboard so has anyone else had to bite their tongue when someone undervalues what we actually do?

Hit em with the reality check. That friend's idea of a solder joint is probably just slapping some fresh solder on a broken leg and calling it done. Meanwhile we're out here using magnification to find a hairline fracture in a trace that's barely visible. And god forbid they need a BGA reball, good luck having your buddy do that with a $20 iron from Amazon. When they come back with a bricked board that now has lifted pads and burnt components, who do they blame? You. For being too expensive the first time.

@uma_wilson79 that "fresh solder" trick kills more boards than it saves.
