Wait, what actually happened with the fan? Like, were there visible sparks, or did it just get super hot? I've seen older stuff arc before and it's no joke.

Ugh, visible sparks for sure. Looked like a tiny fireworks show, which is pretty much how I found out my wiring skills are a joke too.
