Unpopular opinion: Mesh tape just doesn't cut it for long seams

I keep finding jobs where mesh tape has split after a few years. Why not just use paper tape from the start?

What's the point if it fails? Just use paper tape.

Have you ever come across those contractor blogs that dive into tape failures? I was reading one a while back that explained mesh tape relies on a different kind of glue than paper tape. It said the glue can let go on long seams because the wall moves a tiny bit with temperature changes. Paper tape sort of soaks up the joint compound and makes one solid layer, which handles that movement better. Honestly, it made sense because every time I see a split seam, it's where someone used mesh on a big ceiling or something. So maybe the extra hassle with paper tape is worth it for peace of mind.

Paper tape's a pain, but it beats redoing cracked seams.
