Took me 6 months to finally switch to a compost toilet
I was dead set against composting toilets for the longest time. Thought they'd smell bad and be a huge pain to empty. Then my buddy on the dock in Bellingham let me check his setup after he had it running for 3 months. No smell at all, and he only has to dump the solids once every 2 weeks. I bought a Nature's Head unit two weeks ago and it's already so much easier than pumping out the black tank. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted it?

My buddy Mike up in Anacortes got one last summer. He used to spend every other Saturday morning messing with his black tank hose, muttering the whole time. First time he emptied his compost toilet he said he stood there for a minute just realizing he didn't have to do the hose dance anymore. He told me the coffee grounds he tosses in actually make it smell okay, like a weird earthy coffee shop. Now he swears he'll never go back.

Read something the other day saying compost toilets cut your water use by a lot too. @richard_wells59 Mike's story about the coffee grounds makes me think it's not just about skipping the hose dance. There's a guy on YouTube who added a small fan to his setup and said it basically kills any smell completely.
