Dollar store foam sheets beat the fabric store for small dog armor
Stopped at the Dollar Tree on Main Street last Tuesday for trash bags and spotted a stack of 2mm craft foam sheets for $1.25 each. My 12 pound pug needs a knight costume for the neighborhood parade next Saturday and I was about to drop $18 on felt at Joann's. Snagged 4 sheets in grey and silver, cut out chest plates and shoulder guards with basic scissors, then hot glued them to an old hoodie. Held up through three test runs including a squirrel chase, zero tears. Anyone else raid the dollar store before buying pet costume supplies?

...okay I was totally the guy rolling his eyes at dollar store craft stuff, thought it was all flimsy garbage that'd fall apart in a day. But that 2mm foam honestly holds up better than the stiff felt I've bought, and for a small dog costume it's got enough give that it doesn't dig into their shoulders. I used the same trick for my terrier's Halloween shark fin last year, hot glued it to an old baseball cap and it survived three full days of wear including a fetch session in the park. Plus you can't beat the price when the kid (or dog) outgrows the costume in two months anyway.
