My grinder hack that finally fixed my shot times

Honestly I was pulling my hair out for weeks because my espresso shots were all over the place timing wise. Turns out my cheap grinder was heating up the beans after 3 shots in a row at my place in Austin. I tried sticking a frozen gel pack under the grinder hopper and it kept the burrs cool enough to stay consistent. Now my shots are within 2 seconds of each other even after 5 back to back pulls. Anyone else deal with grinder heat messing up their shots?

You’re overthinking this. A frozen gel pack near the burrs is just asking for condensation to drip into the beans and ruin the grind.

That's a fair point about condensation, but did you actually see moisture in your own setup or are you just guessing it could happen? I'd be curious if you've tried a different cooling method like an ice pack wrapped in a towel or just letting the grinder rest between shots. What's been your go-to fix for keeping your grinder temps stable?
