My power supply swap nearly fried the whole board last night

Tried replacing a dead PSU in my PS4 slim with a third party unit off ebay for $28, and the fan spun up like a jet then the console shut off with a burning smell in about 40 seconds, anyone else had a knockoff supply fail that fast?
