Unpopular opinion: that week I found a cracked block on 3 trucks in a row taught me more than any class
Back in 2009 I was working at a small shop outside Allentown and we had three trucks come in the same week all with coolant loss and white smoke. Boss kept saying head gasket, but I pulled the oil pan on the third one and found a crack in the block right at the main saddle. We ended up at $4,200 in parts and a week behind schedule, and the owner was not happy. What made it stand out was the fourth truck that came in on Friday, same symptoms, and this time I pressure tested the cooling system cold before touching anything and caught it in 20 minutes. Now I always test cold first instead of after a road test. Any of you got a shortcut you picked up from a bad week like that?
