Just got my first 6.7 Powerstroke to run smooth after chasing a rough idle for a week

Turns out the issue was a tiny crack in the CAC pipe that only showed under boost, which I found by pressurizing the system with a homemade tester. Anyone else have a favorite method for tracking down boost leaks on these newer engines?

Honestly, calling it the "biggest headache" seems like a stretch for a small boost leak. A rough idle for a week is annoying, but it's not like the truck was dead in the water. Those leaks usually just cost you a bit of power and fuel mileage until you find them.

My buddy's F-250 had a tiny boost leak from a cracked intercooler pipe. It was so small you could barely see it, but the truck would just randomly go into limp mode on the highway. Took him three weekends of checking everything else before he found it. He was about ready to sell the thing because it felt so unsafe when it lost all power. So yeah, sometimes the smallest leak really does cause the biggest mess.

Nice find on that hairline crack. Those homemade pressure testers are worth their weight in gold for stuff you can't see at idle. I've had good luck with the soapy water spray bottle method too, just watching for bubbles while someone revs it up in the shop. It's always the little hidden leak that causes the biggest headache.
