IPR valve diagnostics used to be guesswork, now it takes 10 minutes

Back in 2005 I was chasing a hot no-start on a 7.3 at a shop outside Tulsa. We swapped IPRs, checked the ICP sensor, even pulled the valve cover twice. Took three days to find a chafed wire in the harness. Now I just plug in a scanner and watch the duty cycle live. Saw the same exact issue last month, had it diagnosed in ten minutes flat. The techs I hire don't believe me when I tell them we used to test those coils with a 9-volt battery and a click test. Anyone else remember burning hours on electrical gremlins that a $200 scanner sorts out now?
