The day I found a working payphone and 40 unopened arcade tokens at Northgate
Went to Northgate Mall in Durham last Tuesday because a friend swore the food court still had power. He was right, sort of, one bank of lights was on and the old payphone near the east entrance actually had a dial tone. I found a plastic cup behind the arcade counter with 40 brass tokens still in it, all stamped with the mall's logo from 1994. The weird part was hearing that dial tone in a place that quiet, it made the whole empty hallway feel like it was waiting for someone. Has anyone else found working utilities like that in a dead mall, or was this a fluke from a forgotten breaker?
