Serious question, did that 1898 map of Wyoming at the Cheyenne library have a county that vanished?

I was digging through the map drawer at the Laramie County library in Cheyenne last Saturday and pulled out an 1898 state map with a county called "Pease" drawn right in the middle. A retired history teacher named Dale was sitting next to me and said the county only existed for about 4 years before being folded into another one, and he showed me the tiny note the mapmaker left in the corner. I've been hunting old maps for years and that's the first time someone has pointed out a missing county to me in person. Has anyone else run into a county that got erased off later maps?
