My 1967 road atlas made Google Maps look like a coward
I was plotting a drive through rural West Virginia last weekend and pulled out my grandpa's old Shell atlas to double-check a route. That thing has county roads that haven't existed since the 70s, but it forced me to actually look at the terrain and elevation lines instead of just trusting a blue line. Anyone else found that paper maps teach you the landscape better than GPS, even when the borders are totally wrong?

Honestly I used to think people were just being nostalgic about paper maps but nah you're totally right. GPS just tells you turn here, it doesnt show you why the road curves or where the ridge lines are. Now I kinda wanna grab an old map for my next trip just to see what I've been missing.
