Question about my commute pouch after a talk with a guy at the bus stop
I was waiting on the 7:15 bus in Columbus with a guy who carried his whole life in a beat up fanny pack, and when I asked how his shoulder held up he said the weight doesn't matter, the swing does. That stuck with me because I had been loading my sling with a 2 pound power bank and a full tool roll just to feel ready. So how do you all figure out what actually earns its spot in your bag versus what is just there for peace of mind?
Funny you mention that, because I used to be the exact opposite and pack for every maybe. My sling had a flashlight, two chargers, a rain shell, and snacks I never touched, all because leaving them home made me nervous. Then one day my back hurt so bad I dumped it all on the bed and weighed it, and half the stuff had not been used in a month. Now I do a thing where anything I have not reached for in two weeks comes out, no arguing with myself about it. It is weird how much lighter I feel just walking around, and the peace of mind turned out to come from knowing what is in there, not how much.
