My Pelican case lost to a canvas bag on a 14 mile hike last month
Dragged my hard case with all my camera gear up Table Mountain trail. Heavy, clunky, and the strap dug into my shoulder the whole way. My buddy carried a simple canvas tote filled with bubble wrap and his mirrorless. Lighter by 8 pounds. His stuff survived fine because he padded it right. Now I only use the Pelican for travel, not daily carry. Anyone else ditch the armored cases for softer kits?

Three years ago I swapped my Think Tank roller for a soft padded backpack on a 10 mile trail in the Smokies. I use neoprene lens wraps and a small Domke insert, saved about 5 pounds. The key is wrapping each lens separately and wedging them tight so nothing shifts. Now the hard case stays in the truck for airport trips only.
