Hot take: a $200 messenger bag beats a backpack for hauling gear, and my coworker Dana at the Denver office finally made me see why
I used to think backpacks were the only real choice for daily carry. Then Dana pointed out that on a packed train I have to swing the whole thing off to grab anything, while she just flips the messenger flap and pulls out her laptop. After two weeks of trying it I can reach my charger, badge, and notebook without taking the bag off my shoulder, which matters when the 7:40 from Union Station is standing room only. Am I the only one who switched and never went back, or does the even weight of two straps win for some of you?
