Thought foam gaskets were snake oil until I tried a burger mount board
Last month a guy at the Austin meetup handed me his custom board with one of those silicone burger gaskets between the plate and PCB. I rolled my eyes but typed on it for two seconds. The bottom out felt completely different, softer but not mushy. Built my own TKL with the same setup and now I get why people spend $30 on a piece of silicone. Has anyone else been converted by something they were sure was hype?

Wait, isn't that just masking a bad plate design?

That burger mount board at the Austin meetup got me good too, actually. Built a 60% with a cheap 3mm silicone gasket from a group buy and it totally killed the harsh bottom out I was getting on my aluminum case. The board feels way more forgiving now, like typing on a firm sponge but with none of the wobble. Foam between layers helped the sound too, made it less pingy and more thocky.
