Just realized yearly credit freeze renewals aren't a thing, I'm an idiot

I paid $11.95 to a sketchy credit monitoring site last month thinking they auto-locked my reports for a full year. Turns out freezes are permanent until you lift them, and I wasted that cash for zero benefit. Has anyone else gotten tricked by those cheap monitoring ads when a freeze does the same job for free?
