Vent: My writing group in Ann Arbor hated my prompt about a broken clock, then one guy rewrote it and I got it
I brought a prompt to my group 3 weeks ago about a man fixing a clock that stopped at 4:07, and everyone just stared at me and said it was too quiet. Then this older guy named Ray asked if the clock was broken because someone died or because someone left, and I realized I never decided that part. He scribbled for 10 minutes and read back a version where the guy kept winding it wrong on purpose, and it was 10 times better than mine. Now I always write down one secret about the character before I share a prompt, and my stuff lands way harder. Does anyone else have a person in their group who just sees the missing piece you skipped?
