My grandma's twisted carrots made me reconsider what 'good' means

My neighbor June stopped by last week and saw my wonky carrot pile, said they looked like something her late husband would've grown and that's a compliment. She told me straight carrots are for grocery stores, twisted ones mean the soil worked harder and the taste is usually sweeter. Now I'm wondering, do you all actually prefer the ugly harvests or is it just pride in keeping something alive through the chaos?
