Old timer's load chart advice finally clicked after that 40 ton pick last week

He kept saying to trust the chart over my gut for boom angles, and I blew it off until we nearly tipped on a 38,000 lb transformer in Portland. The chart said 72 degrees, I ran 68 and felt the outrigger lift. Anyone else ignore the numbers on a familiar lift and regret it?
