The change in my discovery timelines after switching to a legal ops consultant

I started at a midsize firm in Cleveland about 18 months ago and our document review for a big M&A dispute took 11 weeks, mainly because we were chasing emails across three different custodians with no real plan. Then we hired a legal ops consultant last spring, and the exact same type of case, same court, same judge even, wrapped up discovery in 5 weeks flat. The big shift was they set up a proper privilege log workflow from day one and made us tag documents as we went instead of dumping everything at the end. That simple change cut our review time by more than half and saved us around $40k in vendor fees. Has anyone else seen that kind of before and after from just changing how you manage the process, not the law itself? I'm wondering if it's worth bringing that team in on our next case or if we just got lucky.

Five weeks versus eleven sounds like a big win, but I'd want to see the same team on a third case before I call it anything but a fluke. You might've just gotten lucky with a more organized opposing side or less messy data that time around.
