Dropped $6,500 on an e-discovery vendor for a 40 gig document dump, and I still can't decide if it was smart
We got hit with a records request in a contract fight last fall and our outside counsel pushed hard for a vendor to run the review instead of two paralegals. Six thousand five hundred dollars later, they flagged about 300 docs that mattered out of roughly 90,000. One side says that's just the price of not getting sanctioned, the other says a good paralegal and a search term list would've done the same thing for a fraction. I keep going back and forth because the vendor did catch stuff our keyword list missed, but it also buried us in junk we paid per page to look at. For the smaller shops here, where do you draw the line on outside review vs handling it in house?
