I finally stopped fighting bleed water at a pour in Phoenix last summer
We were finishing a 40x60 slab and I kept troweling while the surface was still wet, chasing that shiny look like I always did. An old finisher named Ray told me to just wait, and when I did the finish came out 10 times cleaner with way less burn marks. How do you all judge when it's really ready for that first pass when it's 105 degrees out?
That line about chasing the shiny look hit home because I did the exact same thing on a driveway pour in Tucson and ended up with a surface that looked like a golf ball. My old timer trick now is watching the sheen disappear and pressing my thumb in, if it barely leaves a print I know it's go time. Weather like that makes the window tiny, so you almost have to stand there watching it like a hawk.
