Rant: gave up on my old UPS after a power blip killed a RAID array
I've been running the same APC unit since 2018, figured it was still fine because the light was green. Last Tuesday a brownout in our shop in Dayton flipped it over and it took out two drives in a RAID 5 setup before I could even react. Turns out the battery had swollen and the self-test never caught it, so I spent 6 hours rebuilding from backups and another $280 on a new unit. Now I check the battery date every 6 months and replace at the 3 year mark no matter what, am I the only one who trusted the green light for too long?
