Appreciation post: Ditching big cons for local fan hangouts

I stopped hitting every major comic con and now just chill with small fan groups, way more fun and less hassle, what do you guys think?

You said small groups are way more fun, but aren't big cons exciting too? They have a different vibe that's hard to match.

Thought big cons were the peak of fun for the longest time. I mean, nothing beats that crowd energy, right? But helping a friend at their vendor table showed me the other side. After eight hours of non stop noise and crowds, I was wiped. Realized I was missing the chats and connections that make cons special. Now I seek out smaller events where you can actually breathe and talk.

Totally get what you mean about missing the real chats. I used to chase that big crowd energy too, like elliotl24 mentioned. But after a few years it just felt like moving through a packed theme park line all day. Now at a small meetup you can actually finish a conversation about a comic without someone shoving past you. The vibe is completely different, way more about the people and less about the spectacle.
