Warning: My switch to ethical beans almost broke our coffee circle... but we fixed it.
I've loved coffee for a long time... and just learned some farms have really poor pay. So my win was deciding to only buy from places that treat workers right. My group always meets for coffee, and I brought these new fair trade beans last week. One friend got quiet and said I was being too picky about where beans come from. I felt bad... so next time, I just made a pot and let everyone try it without pushing my views. They liked the taste, and now a couple are asking more about the farms. It's a small step, but it feels good to share without forcing it.

Fair trade coffee seemed like a scam until I read this.

Funny how we can jump to conclusions, isn't it? I was right there with you, @gavinw85, thinking it was just a marketing trick to charge more. Then I dug into how the pricing actually works for the farmers. Seeing the real difference it makes in their communities completely changed my view. It's one of those things you have to look into to really get.
